An iPad or mobile phone can be configured to be the main method for verifying your login to Google drive using a prompt rather than entering a verification code sent to you via text.
Step 1: Install the Google app. This can found in the App catalogue or as a free download from the App store or Google Play.
The following instructions and screen shots are taken from an iPad but the process is the same for iPad/iPhone or Android device.
Step 2: Open the app then Tap Sign in which is located at the top middle of the page.
Step 3: Click continue when you receive the following message.
Step 4: Enter your RGS email address and Google drive password. A text message will be sent to your mobile phone, enter the code to continue.
Step 5: Visit https://myaccount.google.com, login then click Sign-in & security.
Step 6: Click 2-Step Verification. You may need to enter your Google drive password and a code sent to you via text message to login.
Step 7: Click Add Google Prompt to continue
Step 8: Click Get started
Step 9: Google has automatically detected that the app has been signed in, click Next.
If you do not see the image shown above, click Setup your iPhone then click to try again.
Step 10: Google will now confirm this is working. Click Try it to continue. Open the Google app on your iPad. You should see the following message. Click Yes
Step 11: You will be asked to Turn on notifications, please do so as this will speed up the process next time the prompt is required.
Step 12: In your web browser, the following message should be displayed. Click Turn it on to set this as your default device for authentication.
You will now see that Google prompt is the default device for 2 factor Authentication. It is recommended that you keep your mobile phone as a secondary device for authentication in case you do not have your iPad to hand. If you do wish to remove it, click the pencil icon next to your phone and then click remove.
